Optical Brighteners: Market on the Rise

Created on:2026-01-28

Addyona is the manufacturer of Optical Brighteners in China for masterbatch.
Optical brighteners are chemicals (also called fluorescent whitening agents) that make materials look whiter and brighter by absorbing invisible ultraviolet (UV) light and re-emitting it as visible blue light, counteracting yellowness and making colors appear more vibrant in products like detergents, paper, and plastics. They work by fluorescence, causing items to

glow under blacklights and enhancing the perception of whiteness by adding blue tones.

How They Work

◾️  UV Absorption :

OBAs absorb light in the UV and violet spectrum (around 340-370 nm).

◾️  Blue Light Emission :

They then fluoresce, emitting light in the blue region (around 420-470 nm) of the visible spectrum.

◾️  Perceived Whiteness :

This added blue light compensates for the natural yellowing of materials, making them appear whiter and brighter to the human eye.

Common Uses

◾️  Laundry :

Added to detergents to make clothes look cleaner and brighter.

◾️  Paper & Plastics :

Used to enhance the whiteness of paper products and mask yellowness in plastics.

◾️  Textiles & Coatings:

Applied to fabrics, fibers, and coatings for a brighter appearance.

◾️  Tracer :

Used in UV lamps to detect flaws or track materials due to their fluorescence.

Appearance

◾️  They are often greenish-yellow fine powders and can be added directly into formulations.

◾️  They can make naturally white items appear "whiter than white" or give pastel colors a cleaner look.
